Dr. Krystal Monique Toney

I’m Dr. Krystal Toney—an environmental scientist, researcher, educator, author, and science communicator who believes nature is far too fascinating to feel out of reach.

I hold a Ph.D. in Environmental Science, and my work explores wildlife behavior, conservation, environmental education, water systems, and equitable access to nature. I have led community-based research, taught ecology, GIS, and water conservation, and mentored students in developing their own environmental research projects. I’m also the author of two children’s books about insects and a contributor to We Are Nature Defending Itself.

Through my platform, Nature Is Lit, I transform scientific discoveries into stories that are fun, accessible, and occasionally a little weird—because science doesn’t have to be intimidating to be meaningful. Whether I’m discussing bizarre animal behavior, overlooked organisms, or emerging environmental research, my goal is to help people rediscover their curiosity and recognize that every part of the natural world has a story worth telling.
